Portuguese star still on Moyes' hitlist
Everton, 09:55, August 6, 2008 ,
Chairman Bill Kenwright has admitted that Sporting Lisbon's Portuguese ace Joao Moutinho is still Everton boss David Moyes' top target.
The Toffees have been linked with a swoop for Moutinho for several weeks and have already seen Sporting snub an initial offer of £11.8million. However with striker Andrew Johnson looking set to finally move on to Fulham at some point this week, it seems that Moyes will go all out to take his main target to Goodison Park, having failed to make one summer signing to date.
Kenwright told Sky Sports: "He is one of the manager's major targets. David said last week in America, 'I am only going to bring in players who will take the club forward', and that is how he is.
"He is relentless in that, I have never known David say 'he'll do' or 'that'll do'. He takes his time, pinpoints and focuses. And when I actually see the player he has focused on I say 'I get it'. I saw one this weekend on a football pitch and I said, 'Yeah, I see why we want that particular player'."
Kenwright confirmed that Johnson should move to Fulham after the deal looked like it would collapse at the weekend when it is claimed the Cottagers cut their initial £13million bid by over half when a problem over an old injury arose during his medical at Craven Cottage.
However, following further negotiations, the Toffees are in a position where they will secure the full asking price for Johnson depending on appearances.
