Striker in race against time
Everton, 12:22, August 14, 2008 ,
Everton striker James Vaughan is in a race against time to shake off a foot injury and be fit for the clash with Blackburn.
David Moyes' men could open their Premiership campaign with just 11 players available for selection because of injury and the Olympics but Vaughan is hoping he will be fit to play.
Vaughan has escaped suspension for the opening game of the Premier League season at Goodison Park following his sending-off against Chicago Fire in last month's friendly as the US federation has not submitted a report to the FA.
Yakubu is the only forward available because Victor Anichebe will still be at the Olympics as any hopes of an early return for the Nigerian were dashed yesterday.
He helped his country to a 2-1 victory over the USA that secured their place in the quarter-finals and a prolonged stay in China.
