Striker race hots up

Everton, 09:19, August 21, 2008 ,

Everton's hopes of landing Argentine striker Diego Milito have taken a knock with the news that Real Madrid are also keen on him.

The Real Zaragoza striker has been on David Moyes' wanted list all summer since it became obvious that they would sell him, following their relegation from La Liga last season.
Zaragoza are said to want a whopping £16m for the striker but Madrid apparently expect to be able to pick him up for a mere £12m and Everton would also be able to match that figure.
With just over a week to go of the transfer window, Moyes has yet to add to his squad but is still in talks to bring Newcastle United's Alan Smith, Rennes midfielder Stephane M'bia and Sporting Lisbon playmaker Joao Moutinho to Goodison.
