Toffees to end Dempsey chase
Everton appear unlikely to pursue their interest in Fulham striker Clint Dempsey but have taken youngster M'Baye Niang on trial.
US striker Dempsey is keen to leave the Cottagers this summer, with Everton and Liverpool the two sides believed to be leading the chase for the 29-year-old.
However, Fulham value the forward, who has just a year left on his contract, at around £10million.
Everton are reluctant to go that high, despite earning a cash windfall following the £12million sale of Jack Rodwell to Manchester City.
They have already spent £4.5million on 29-year-old Steven Pienaar this summer and Toffees boss David Moyes prefers to sign younger players with potential sell-on value.
One of those players is teenage Caen striker Niang, who has arrived at the club's Finch Farm training ground on Wednesday for a three-day trial.
The 17-year-old is valued at around £6million but Everton may be able to acquire his services for a relatively low upfront fee - with the rest based on appearances and achievements - should he impress in the coming days.
