McNamara not ready to hang up his boots

Falkirk, 11:05, February 5, 2010 ,

Falkirk veteran Jackie McNamara has insisted he still has the desire to keep playing and has put a coaching role on the back-burner.

The 36-year-old, who has started 12 SPL matches for the Bairns this season, had been targeted by Partick Thistle last week as he has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for a coaching or management role.
However, a recent knee injury gave him food for thought and he is keen to extend the playing side of his career for as long as possible.
"I still have a desire to play," McNamara said. "My recent knee injury gave me a wee indication.
"You miss the training, miss the playing and those are things I want to do as long as possible.
"When you get over a certain age, you are one game away from the legs going and being finished - that's the mentality.
"But you know yourself if you have had enough and want to call it a day. I'll keep going as long as I feel right.
"Coaching and management is the next step for me but just now I really enjoy the playing side."
