Briatore has ban overturned
Formula 1, 17:34, January 5, 2010 ,
The French high court has overturned former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore's lifetime ban from motorsport.
Briatore, who is also chairman of Queens Park Rangers football club, was banned by Formula One's governing body, the FIA, for his part in an incident at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Driver Nelson Piquet Jr claimed he had been told to deliberately crash in that race to help team-mate Fernando Alonso, which came to light when Piquet Jr was dismissed by the F1 team last season.
Briatore and Renault's former director of engineering, Pat Symonds, were handed punishments but both have been successful in having them overturned in the courts.
The French high court also awarded Briatore £13,500 in compensation, with the judge stating that the court "ruled the sanction was illegal." Reports claim though that the FIA may well launch an appeal against the decision.
