British team sign up for 2010

Formula 1, 11:00, May 26, 2009 ,

Williams has committed its team to the 2010 Formula One championship amid concerns from other teams about a budget cap.

Ferrari has already indicated it will play no part in next year's F1 calendar because it is unhappy with Max Mosley's plans to install a cap and bring in two-tier regulations.
But, despite signing a letter handed out by the Formula One Teams' Association calling for the new plans be scrapped, Williams has now stated it will take part in 2010.
Chief executive Adam Parr has said, however, that Williams had no option because it has a 'binding contract' with Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management to race until the end of next year.
Parr said: "The unity of FOTA is of paramount importance to Williams.
"Last weekend we joined the other members of FOTA in writing to the FIA to request a continuing effort to find a compromise concerning the regulations for 2010.
"We believe that under the leadership of Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Toyota motorsport president John Howett, FOTA has extracted some very significant concessions from the FIA."
He added: "Having said that, Williams has - and has always maintained - that we have a binding contract with both FOM and the FIA to participate in the world championship from 2008 to 2010.
"We have been paid in full for our participation and we feel both morally and legally obliged to make it clear that we will participate in Formula One in the future as we have in the past 30 years."
