Lewis Hamilton is happy his new approach to secure points consistently across the whole F1 season is paying off early on in 2012.

Hamilton has not won a race so far this season, despite three poles in the first five GPs, but he sits third in the drivers' standings, only eight points behind joint leaders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso ahead of Sunday's Monaco GP. The Briton has finished third on three occasions so far this year and he admits he is looking to be more consistent overall rather than completely concentrating on always winning. "If that means coming in the top three or four rather than winning all the time then the former world champion says that is fine. "I've scored points at every race and I'm only eight points off the lead of the championship," Hamilton told BBC Sport. "That's really encouraging. It's reassuring to see my approach pay off."
