Kubica commits to Renault

Formula 1, 15:09, January 4, 2010 ,

Robert Kubica has confirmed that he will be staying with the Renault Formula 1 team for the 2010 season.

The Polish flyer was tipped to move on during the close season as he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if the team was not wholly owned by Renault.
Luxembourg private investment group Genii Capital now owns 75% of the team but, following talks between the relevant parties, Kubica has confirmed that he will line up on the grid later this year in a Renault car.
His manager, Daniel Morelli, told BBC Sport the situation regarding the talented driver.
"We are going in the right direction," he said. "There were no doubts, really, but it was very important we understood who were in the key roles in the team and of course also the budget - it is fundamental you have that for the updates to the car."
There had been reports that Kubica was holding out for more money but these have been fiercely denied.
"It is totally untrue that we were asking for more money," added Morelli. "It is not in our interests to take advantage. We want the money for the team.
"Robert wants a performing car. It's useless if the driver gets more money if you have a weak car and lose bonuses. It's better to score points and make podiums than to earn more money."
