MBE caps 'incredible year' for Button
Formula 1, 10:58, December 31, 2009 ,
Formula 1 champion Jenson Button says being appointed MBE in the New Year's Honours list caps 'the most incredible year' of his life.
The 29-year-old Briton secured a maiden world title with Brawn GP, whose principal Ross Brawn picked up an OBE after the team won the constructors title. And Button, who enjoyed six victories and three further podium finishes in the 2009 campaign only a year after his previous employers Honda quit F1 before being bought out by Brawn, was left overjoyed at his honour.
"This really is the crowning glory to what has been the most incredible year of my life," he said.
"To be recognised by the Queen and the British people is a tremendous honour."
Button added: "Everybody at Brawn played their part," added Button. "It was down to their expertise, dedication and hard work that we were able to achieve so much.
"We literally started with nothing, but had the belief, determination and passion to take on the world and succeed.
"Many people played a role in my world championship - and in receiving this award, I want to acknowledge and thank them for all their efforts."
