Al Fayed confirms boss talks are planned
Fulham, 13:49, November 16, 2009 ,
Mohamed Al Fayed insists Roy Hodgson is committed to Fulham and says he will discuss a new deal with the boss 'when the time is right'.
The Cottagers chairman has spoken out following recent speculation linking his manager to the respective Norway and Sweden national team posts. Al Fayed is delighted with Hodgson's work at Craven Cottage after guiding the club away from certain relegation in the second half of the 2007-08 campaign, before leading them into the Europa League via their Premier League finish last term. And, despite not yet opening talks about handing him a new deal at Fulham, the Egyptian businessman claims he has every intention of opening negotiations.
"I can't stop speculation within the media about certain subjects that they enjoy trying to mischief make with," Al Fayed told Soccernet. "Roy is committed to Fulham, and I have shown my support of him throughout.
"I have invested in his squad and supported him in all playing decisions, proving that I have belief in his ability and his future here.
"Quite simply, we have not sat down and discussed a longer-term strategy yet, nothing more sinister than that, but this for some reason has caused speculation in the press which I can't control and do not appreciate.
"We have important matches to concentrate on, and when the time is right those conversations will of course take place."
