Cottagers still light in numbers - boss

Fulham, 11:36, February 3, 2009 ,

Roy Hodgson has admitted he was disappointed not to bring some striker reinforcements into Fulham during the transfer window.

The Cottagers boss made three late swoops to snap up Inter Milan veteran midfielder Olivier Dacourt, while Julian Gray made his loan spell from Coventry into a permanent deal and Giles Barnes joined on loan from Derby.
However with the influential midfielder Jimmy Bullard leaving for Hull City and Seoul Ki-hyeon joining Saudi Arabia outfit Al Hilal on a six-month loan deal, Hodgson felt his squad still needed strengthening further.
Indeed the Cottagers were linked with a shock bid to take former striker Brian McBride back to Craven Cottage from America's Major League Soccer. However that came to nothing and Hodgson feels his forward line is a little short in numbers for the second half of the season.
"It's always a difficult situation when players have done well and are popular but the situation is very complicated," he told Setanta's Football Matters. "It's not always as easy to satisfy the fans they think it is.
"Jimmy was very determined to get the deal he wanted and we couldn't give him that deal so we just had to bite the bullet on that one and accept that somebody else could.
"I'm very happy but it would have been nice to have added to our forwards having lost Seol Ki-hyeon. But Olivier Dacourt will prove to be a very good signing as will Giles Barnes."
