Hodgson admits Bullard injury worry
Fulham, 13:43, February 21, 2009 ,
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson admits Jimmy Bullard's injured knee was one of the main reasons why he was not offered a long-term deal.
Bullard left Fulham for Hull in a £5million deal last month after rejecting a contract offer at Craven Cottage. But after picking up a knee injury on his debut the England midfielder flew to America for surgery and will have to spend the rest of the campaign on the sidelines.
Bullard injured the same knee in September 2006 and spent 16 months out.
Hodgson said: "We didn't know about this (Bullard's latest injury) but if we hadn't given it (his knee) a thought we wouldn't be doing our job.
"We couldn't say 'we're not giving Jimmy a new contract because he has a bad knee', that wasn't the case at all.
"But, of course, if you are looking at a player - and this applies to any player who has had a very serious knee injury - and thinking about a contract lasting three or four years, it would be dishonest to say that doesn't become a consideration."
