Hodgson pins hope on double fitness bost
Fulham, 12:38, February 18, 2009 ,
Paul Konchesky and Andy Johnson are set to play for Fulham at Man United after being given as long as possible to prove their fitness.
Striker Johnson and defender Konchesky, picked up minor strains in the 1-1 draw at Swansea in the FA Cup on Saturday. However boss Roy Hodgson is hopeful that the pair will recover in time to feature against the Premier League leaders at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Therefore midfielder Dickson Etuhu, who has not played since the clash with Wigan on February 7, is the only definite absentee for the Cottagers.
Hodgson takes his side into the match looking for a first away win of the season against a United side looking to secure a 14th successive clean sheet in a long unbeaten run which has taken them two points clear at the top of the table. And, while everything points to a home win, the boss is hoping for a miracle outcome.
He said: "Wouldn't it be strange if their long clean sheet record was broken by Fulham, whose record of scoring goals away from home has been poor?
"Wouldn't it be even more strange if we were to whack four or five past them? Albeit our chances are very slim. Miracles don't always happen but sometimes they do.
"No-one is really expecting us to go there and score three or four so anything we do will be a surprise. We surprised everyone by staying in the division last year and maybe we can surprise them again."
