Hodgson seals defender swoop

Fulham, 17:50, February 1, 2010 ,

Fulham have signed Liverpool defender Christopher Buchtmann, but will not be pursuing their interest in Stoke's James Beattie.

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has swooped to sign 17-year-old Germany Under-17 international left-back, Buchtmann, on an 18-month contract after he failed to force his way into Rafa Benitez's plans at Anfield.
"Fulham can announce the signing of young German left-back Christopher Buchtmann from Liverpool on an 18-month contract that will see the player at the club until June 2011," confirmed a club statement.
"Following the addition of Christopher Buchtmann, Fulham has now concluded its signings this transfer window."
The Cottagers have also snapped up Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey and striker Stefano Okaka on transfer deadline day, while striker Diomansy Kamara was allowed to join Celtic on loan until June. However reports that Hodgson could make a late bid for Beattie did not materialise.
