Hodgson set for double raid
Fulham, 13:26, February 1, 2010 ,
Fulham have signed Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey on loan until the summer and made a bid for Stoke City striker James Beattie.
Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has swooped to take Shorey to Craven Cottage to bolster his defence and has the option to make the switch permanent at the end of the season.
The former Reading defender, who has two caps for England, has struggled for first-team action at Villa Park and has just spent time on loan with Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile Hodgson is also hoping to follow up the loan signing of Roma forward Stefano Okaka with a swoop for 31-year-old Stoke hitman Beattie.
Blackburn and Sunderland were thought to be in the race to sign the player, who has fallen out of favour at the Britannia Stadium following a spat with boss Tony Pulis in December, but Fulham have entered the race ahead of the 5pm deadline.
The Cottagers are desperate for more firepower as Andy Johnson is injured, Erik Nevland has struggled to make an impact, while Diomansy Kamara has joined Celtic to leave Bobby Zamora as the only experienced striker.
