Fulham are hopeful Martin Jol will return to oversee training on Friday ahead of Sunday's Premier League game with Sunderland.

Jol had still not recovered sufficiently from a chest infection in order to resume his managerial duties, having missed the club's last two matches at Everton and Liverpool. The Dutchman had been been expected to be able to travel to Merseyside for Tuesday night's historic 1-0 league win at Anfield, Fulham's first ever victory at the ground. He did not accompany the team on Monday but was set to join them before kick-off 24 hours later only to decide to remain in London. Fulham produced the perfect pick-me-up, moving level on points with eighth-placed Liverpool with two league games remaining. The win was masterminded by first-team coach Billy McKinlay, who was also in charge for Saturday's 4-0 thrashing at Everton.
