Jol snubbed in midfield bid

Fulham have reportedly failed with a bid in the region of £2million for Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham.
Cottagers boss Martin Jol is scouring the market as he looks to find a replacement for Danny Murphy following the veteran's switch to relegated Blackburn Rovers earlier in the transfer window. And it appears 27-year-old former England Under-21 international Whittingham, who joined Cardiff from Aston Villa in January 2007, is his top target to fill the void. But with the player contracted to the Bluebirds until summer 2014, it seems boss Malky Mackay has no desire to let one of his key players depart the Cardiff City Stadium without a fight. Therefore, Jol will have to either increase the offer or cast his net elsewhere for a new midfielder ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
