Fulham star Danny Murphy has played down speculation linking him with a shock England call-up in the wake of Roy Hodgson's appointment.
The former Cottagers boss was named as Fabio Capello's successor last week and swiftly added Fulham coach Ray Lewington to his backroom staff. The Fulham connections have seen some suggest Murphy may be in line for a late inclusion for Euro 2012, eight and a half years after collecting his last England cap against Denmark. However, the reports have been laughed off by the 35-year-old, although he is backing Hodgson to do well for his country. When quizzed on the possibility of playing for England again, the veteran midfielder said: "I have not thought about that for a long time. My only thought when I heard he got the job was pleasure for him. "I know what a gentleman he is and what a knowledgeable man he is and the players will certainly go into the Euros knowing what he wants from them. They will be well organised."
