Allen enjoys a happy birthday

Gillingham boss Martin Allen could not have hoped for a better 47th birthday present from his squad than an 2-1 win over Bristol City.

Allen was understandably delighted after seeing his troops out-battle and, at times, outplay the npower Championship side. He said: "I thought before the game we would win and there is no question that we deserved it. "Having worked with the players for six weeks, I know that nothing we did was by accident. "The players have been doing three sessions a day and the staff have been joining in too. Allen added: "I will freshen things up for our opening league game because it was exhausting as well as exciting for the lads."
