Gillingham boss Martin Allen was proud of his players despite seeing their 2-0 Capital One Cup defeat against Middlesbrough.
Goals from Mustapha Carayol and Cameron Park ended Gills' 100 per cent start to the season, but Allen was happy with his side's performance. "I thought it was a fantastic cup tie with a superb atmosphere created by our supporters and a really committed effort from all my players," he said. "I've got to say Middlesbrough played well first half and passed the ball very well. In the second half we completely dominated the game. "The breakaway goal they got at the end was because we were playing two at the back. It was only a matter of time until we got a break but it didn't quite happen. "It was a great effort from the lads, it was a terrific occasion and a real shame we couldn't have scored to take it into extra time. The fans gave them a standing ovation as they walked off the pitch and I think that was quite correct."
