Gillingham are sweating over the fitness of skipper Andy Frampton for their trip to Northampton.

The centre-back went home from training on Thursday due to illness and will be assessed ahead of the clash at Sixfields. Manager Andy Hessenthaler will be hoping Frampton recovers in time having seen the experienced defender forge a solid partnership with rookie Connor Essam, highlighted by their display in last weekend's 3-1 win over Swindon which kept the Kent club's faint play-off hopes alive. Midfielder Chris Whelpdale bagged a brace to help down the Robins and the midfielder, who has been managing a knee injury in recent weeks, will also be monitored as he continues to play through the pain barrier. The Gills were boosted by the returns of midfield trio Charlie Lee, Danny Jackman and Curtis Weston last weekend but Jack Payne (hamstring), Gavin Tomlin (ankle) and Callum Davies (hand) are set to remain sidelined.
