Fisher maintains slender Irish lead
Golf, 18:35, July 31, 2010 ,
Ross Fisher will take just a one shot lead into the final round of the Irish Open after shooting a level par 71 on Saturday.
The 29-year-old could not recapture the terrific form from Friday which had seen him come within two holes of shooting the first 59 of the European Tour, the Englishman eventually finishing on 61.
While Fisher started well on Saturday, with four birdies in the first seven holes, the wheels eventually came off after he double bogeyed the eighth.
Fisher failed to make another birdie for the rest of the round, allowing Francesco Molinari to close the gap to one shot as he moved to 11-under overall.
Chris Wood joins him on eleven under after a fantastic round off 66 - the lowest round of the day - which included five straight birdies from the fifth onwards.
With Wood and Molinari breathing down his neck, Fisher will have to hold his nerve on Sunday and admits he is a little disappointed he allowed the rest of the field back into the tournament.
"It's still good to have the lead but obviously I am a little disappointed. I felt like I was playing really, really nice up until eight. I felt like I hit a good shot there but the wind got hold of it, it went in the water and I made six," he told Sky Sports.
"I felt like I played solid on the back nine but unfortunately the putts didn't drop today and 61 yesterday was 71 today."
