Open success for Oosthuizen
Golf, 18:57, July 18, 2010 ,
South African Louis Oosthuizen has won his first major title by cruising to victory in the Open at St Andrews.
Oosthuizen won the famous Claret Jug with a seven shot victory over second-placed Lee Westwood. Paul Casey, who had been pushing Oosthuizen for most of the week, saw his challenge fail with a triple-bogey at the 12th.
The South African had led the field from Friday and began the final day five strokes ahead of Casey. He carded a final day 71 to finish 16-under-par for the tournament.
Westwood's 70 pushed him into second place at nine-under whilst Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, Sweden's Henrik Stenson and England's Casey all finished third on eight-under.
Tiger Woods scored a level-par 72 to finish the tournament on three-under, well off the pace. He was clearly a shadow of his former self and picked up double bogeys on the fourth and seventh holes.
