Rory reveals doubters motivation
Rory McIlroy has admitted recent criticism of his game motivated him to win the US PGA Championship on Sunday.
Having come through a difficult few months on the circuit, the 23-year-old started to show signs of improvement at the Bridgestone Invitational earlier this month and took that form into the major at Kiawah Island. McIlory managed to beat Jack Nicklaus' record winning margin for the event, which had stood since 1970, after he dominated the field to win by eight shots. The former US Open champion was delighted with his performance and admitted his doubters spurred him on at The Ocean Course at South Carolina last weekend. He said: "A few people in this room were probably pressing panic buttons for no reason. "I don't think I could have answered it in any better way - and yeah, to be honest, it did motivate me. I did want to go out there and prove a few people wrong. "That's what I did. It took me all of four weeks to get my game back in shape and get out of my mini slump - and this is the result."
