Rose looking to St Andrews

Justin Rose is targeting winning next week's Open Championship at St Andrews after success in the AT&T National on Sunday.

The 29-year-old's success in Pennsylvania over the weekend - clinching the title by finishing one stroke ahead of American Ryan Moore - means he has now won two titles in the US in five weeks. It also means he is now guaranteed a place at the Open, the first time he will contest the title at St Andrews.
He is hoping to harness this self-belief to make the step up from winning PGA titles to major championships. He is clearly the form player at the moment and probably should have won the Traveller's Championship too had he not thrown away a four-stroke advantage with some poor putting on the final day.
"I think winning on the PGA Tour is a stepping stone to winning major championships," he said.
"This is the progression I would have expected. I established myself in Europe and then it took me a while over here, but then I established myself by winning PGA Tour events. Then to the next level, which would be the major championships."
Rose and Graeme McDowell, who won the US Open at Pebble Beach in June, are two of the hottest properties in golf right now and there promises to be quite a battle at St Andrews next week.
