Rose wary of St Andrews challenge
Golf, 18:55, July 14, 2010 ,
Justin Rose believes his two PGA Tour wins this year will not stand him in better stead to challenge for the Open this weekend.
The Englishmen has won two tournaments in the last six weeks and could have had a third had he not blown a three-shot lead heading into the third round of the Travellers Championship.
Rose's victories make him one to watch out for at St Andrews this weekend as the British and Irish players look to claim a second straight major following on from Graeme McDowell's success at the US Open.
However, the 29-year-old has been talking down his chances of winning his first major, claiming his previous wins won't help him and that the weather could make the home of golf even tougher than normal.
"I really don't feel necessarily that all those good weeks are going to help me all that much. Thursday is about a new challenge, a new week, a new golf course," said Rose.
"But should the week progress nicely and I find myself in contention then that's when I might be able to draw upon the last few weeks."
"The way I picture it would be nice and sunny, 20-mile-an-hour cross-breeze across the golf course - I think that would have tested everybody, but made it very, very enjoyable.
"If we get a little bit of the extreme stuff, then so be it, But the draw can be lop-sided if it's incredibly tough one morning and then dies out."
