Sergio takes China prize

Sergio Garcia has moved up to second in the world rankings after winning the HSBC Champions tournament in China.

The Spaniard pipped England's Oliver Wilson in a play-off after the Ryder Cup team-mates were locked together at 14-under par after 72 holes.

The players had to complete their final rounds on Monday after Friday's washout in the Far East and Wilson carded a 70 to Garcia's 68 to force the play-off.

And it was Garcia who held his nerve, sinking a long birdie putt to claim the £530,000 first prize.

The mercurial Spanish star was delighted to now have just Tiger Woods ahead of him in the world standings.

"I'm just so proud to win and get to number two in the world," he said. "I'm very happy. It's a great week. The last seven months have been very, very positive since my win at the Players."

Wilson picked up £350,000 for his troubled but was disappointed to be the bridesmaid once again.

"Second is not good enough any more," he said. "Sergio played great and didn't really miss a shot. So congratulations for him. But obviously I am disappointed.

"There was a time when I was pleased to be finishing there (in second place), and it's gone. It's about time I took my chance."
