Stricker in record-breaking form
Golf, 12:39, May 30, 2009 ,
Steve Stricker has broken the 36-hole course record at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Texas to lead the field by one shot.
The American star has carded back-to-back 63s for a 14-under total of 126 - breaking the previous halfway record by two strokes.
The course and condition shave been conducive to low scoring and, despite the record, Stricker is looking over his shoulder at a number of players in with a chance of making a move over the next couple of days.
Tim Clark is just one shot back after a second-round 64, while Vijay Singh is at -12, one shot better than Sean O'Hair.
Englishmen Paul Casey (67) and Luke Donald (65) are both seven behind Stricker, who admitted there is till a lot of work to do to claim the trophy - despite his excellent form to date.
"I'd rather have the trophy (than the record)," he said. "We're only halfway through. I'd like to keep making putts. That solves a lot of problems.
"The weather all week since we've been here has been unbelievable. Wind is what this course needs to get difficult, but we haven't seen it yet... I kind of like what's going on right now."
