Westwood turns to technology
Golf, 14:40, July 8, 2010 ,
Lee Westwood is hoping revolutionary technology can help him win his race against time to be fit for the Open Championship.
The world number three has been diagnosed with a torn calf muscle after struggling through the Open de France last week.
Westwood sought specialist advice and was told not to play in the star-studded JP McManus Pro-am and also to alter his preparations for the Open Championship.
That means he will not be going to St Andrews as early as planned and is set to use a compression wrap designed by scientists and based on NASA technology which combines all the traditional elements of rest, ice, compression and elevation that has traditionally been used to treat such an injury.
Westwood's manager Andrew Chandler has said: "The inflammation has gone down and he should be hitting full shots on Friday.
"All being well Lee will travel up to Scotland on Monday and play nine holes."
