Reid confident rookies will step up
Hamilton Academical, 15:02, January 21, 2010 ,
Hamilton boss Billy Reid insists his youngsters are ready for the relegation scrap, starting with the trip to Hibs on Saturday.
The Accies put up a spirited, battling display against Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup in midweek with 20-year-old Grant Evans impressing, while 18-year-old Kyle Wilkie caught the eye as a second-half substitute.
Jordan Kirkpatrick, 17, was on the bench for the Cup defeat but did feature against Celtic earlier in the season, and Reid believes they are all ready for the relegation battle.
He said: "Kyle is a good player and he's only 18. And big Grant deserves a special mention. He's been out of the team and came into the side for the Rangers game and did fairly well.
"I've been trying to blood the youngsters in the SPL over the season but it's not always that easy because the SPL is cut-throat, especially in our position.
"We've got good young players and they are the lifeblood of the club. We also have Jordan and Ally Crawford and they will all feature over the coming weeks."
