Benjelloun jaunt gets thumbs-up

Hibernian, 11:33, October 6, 2009 ,

Abdessalam Benjelloun has embarked on the 6,000-mile trip to play for Morocco against Gabon with Hibs boss John Hughes' blessing.

The striker has been called up by his country for their crunch World Cup qualifying match against Gabon after an impressive display for Hibs in the 1-1 draw against Dundee United on Saturday.
That game was his first start to an SPL match in 17 months and Hughes is delighted his display has been recognised with an international call-up.
"I opened up my laptop this morning to learn that Benji has been called up and I am pleased for him because he wanted to go and be involved in this game for Morocco," said Hughes in the Edinburgh Evening Post.
"His call up is another indication of the quality of players we've got at the club and Benji has certainly worked very hard for me over the last few weeks."
