Boss wants more competition for places

Hibernian, 15:41, October 14, 2009 ,

Hibs boss John Hughes has told his fringe players, like Kevin McCann, they must train like "champions" to get back into his side.

McCann is currently second-choice at right-back with David Wotherspoon the incumbent but Hughes is delighted the fit-again McCann is providing serious competition.
Hughes said in the Scotsman: "Kevin is doing well, he's training hard at the moment and I can't really ask any more of him.
"At this moment young Wotherspoon has got the right-back position but at the end of the day it is always up for grabs."
The boss wants all his fringe players to be pushing for first-team starts although they will have to impress in training in order to get a look in.
"We've also got Darren McCormack in there fighting for a place and that's what I want to see," he added.
"If anyone comes to see me and asks how they get in that first team, I just tell them that they have to train like a champion."
