Hibs may need to cash in - Hughes

Hibernian, 12:45, February 9, 2010 ,

Hibernian boss John Hughes has admitted he may be forced to sell more of his talented youngsters to help the club in the long term.

Hibs have made money on the likes of Garry O'Connor, Kevin Thomson, Steven Whittaker, Scott Brown and Steven Fletcher in recent years and Hughes admits sometimes talented young players need to be sold to help the club out financially.
David Wotherspoon is the latest Hibs starlet linked with a big-money switch away from Easter Road and Hughes admits if a tempting offer were to come in at some point he would reluctantly consider it.
Hughes told BBC Scotland: "This is a business as well as a football club. If you offered me £4m for David Wotherspoon just now, I would take it.
"As a manager, you have to know the whole side of the game, how to produce players, how to sell them on."
He added: "In an ideal scenario, I should be going to my board of directors and saying 'we need to sell this kid' and, when asked why, my reply would be 'because he is stopping a better one coming through'," said Hughes.
"That's is what I am working towards."
