Hughes sees golden opportunity
Hibernian, 14:18, October 12, 2009 ,
Hibs boss John Hughes has called for focus and improvement from his players to build a golden era at the club.
The Easter Road outfit lies in third place in the table, just three points off Celtic at the top, after the first seven games of the season.
Hughes believes he has already seen improvement since he took over the reins but now wants his players to become more consistent to challenge for top honours.
Hughes said: "Yes, we've had one or two disappointments along the way, but there is definitely improvement there.
"We keep saying to the players that this is a wonderful opportunity and it's up to them to grasp it.
"All I can do is try and pass on my experience and I keep telling players that a career in football is short and can be over in no time whatsoever.
"I think players believe they are invincible and can go on forever but, believe me, it creeps up on you and, all of a sudden, you are saying to yourself: 'Where did it all go?'
"In five or ten years' time, I want to bump into these players on Princes Street or wherever and say: 'Yes, that was the best period in our football life'.
"I am determined to make everyone appreciate what we are trying to do at this club."
