Hughes wary of complacency
Hibernian, 15:13, October 22, 2009 ,
Hibs boss John Hughes believes the furore over Rangers' dismal defeat on Wednesday is over the top and he is expecting a backlash.
The Ibrox outfit capitulated against Unirea Urziceni in the Champions League in midweek, losing 4-1 at home after taking the lead, and Hibs have the chance to leapfrog Rangers and go to the top of the SPL with a win on Saturday.
Hughes and Brian Rice were both in attendance in midweek and the former feels that luck was definitely not on Rangers' side, and is expecting them to bounce back at the weekend.
He said: "Ask yourself why Rangers were playing this 'wee diddy team' rather than Steaua Bucharest and the answer is they are Romanian champions, a quality side boasting Brazilian and Argentinian players.
"Unirea were technically good, they retained the ball well and it was freak goals which cost Rangers, they did not carry any luck at all on the night.
"I know, having played for the Old Firm, that when you get such a defeat your next opposition are playing a wounded animal. We are going to play the Scottish champions in their own back yard."
