Benitez will have to dig deep for defender
Hull City, 12:14, August 9, 2009 ,
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly £6m short in his bid for Hull defender Michael Turner.
The Anfield chief saw former captain Sami Hyypia quit the club over the summer to leave Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger as his only senior central defenders.
However, all three are carrying injuries heading into the new Premier League season which could force Benitez into the transfer markets.
And while the Spaniard is said to have tentatively offered £6m for the 25-year-old Londoner, Tigers chief Phil Brown is known to value Turner in the £12m bracket and will not let him go on the cheap.
Benitez confirmed: "I was talking with (Hull manager) Phil Brown, but I will not talk about figures. But maybe I was just talking to Phil about the weather."
