Cardiff braced for fresh striker bid
Hull City, 11:10, August 7, 2009 ,
Cardiff City have rejected a £3million offer from Hull for Ross McCormack but the Tigers are set to return with a higher bid.
Striker McCormack has long been a target of Hull boss Phil Brown, who sealed the signings of Seyi Olofinjana and Jozy Alitidore yesterday.
But the Tigers have been unwilling to match Cardiff's asking price of around £5million despite the player expressing his desire to leave.
Brown said: "We've made our move, we've put a bid in for Ross McCormack but the bid has been rejected.
"Hopefully we can agree terms between the two clubs and the player still but we won't raise what we've bid because we think it's a good offer.
"He's a player who cost them a hundred grand a year ago and scored 23 goals in the Championship. We believe their valuation now is too high."
However Cardiff boss Dave Jones is unhappy with McCormack's apparent lack of loyalty and now appears to be prepared to let the unsettled striker go for around £4million.
Jones said:"Ross has to understand that he gets paid to play for this club, not to moan and groan.
"It's strange that one minute the player is happy with a four-year lucrative contract and next there's quotes that he's not happy."
One player is who looks certain to move to the KC Stadium is Habib Beye after boss Brown confirmed he is to meet the Newcastle defender today to discuss terms.
Brown added: We've agreed a fee that's been accepted by Newcastle.
"Hopefully he'll be down here in the next 24 hours with a medical in mind and to finalise personal terms to become a Hull City player.
"If that happens before the weekend then great, but if it doesn't we'll move on."
