Hull defender James Chester has spoken of his gratitude after being voted player of the year by his team-mates at the KC Stadium.

Chester, 23, signed from Manchester United in January 2011, has been a virtual ever-present in his first full season with the Tigers and has topped the players' poll for their outstanding performer. "I'm happy," Chester told the club's official website. "I said when I came here that I wanted to play as many games as possible and I've only missed two league games since I signed and those were because of injury. "My progression has gone quicker than I could have envisaged when I first signed. I'm happy with how it's going and hopefully that can continue." On his players' player of the year award Chester added: "It's nice to get recognition. This is a great award to get because it's come from people who see me every day."
