Fulham boss Roy Hodgson claims it is by no means a formality that striker Bobby Zamora will move to Hull for £5million.
Reports suggest the former Spurs and West Ham hitman is set to be offloaded as the Cottagers try to prise Peter Crouch away from Portsmouth.
But Hodgson now says Zamora could still have a future at Craven Cottage because he is valued by his manager.
Hodgson said: "I can confirm that Hull are interested in him and have made a bid but I can't confirm that we're going to be prepared to let him go.
"Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson have been excellent on the tour and if we lose him, he's going to be a hard man to replace that's for sure."
The warning will not be ignored by Tigers boss Phil Brown, who admitted that he is anxious to talk to Zamora following a nightmare summer in which he has already lost out on the signings of Fraizer Campbell, Michael Owen and Marc-Antoine Fortune.
"Bobby is still away with Fulham in Australia," Brown told the Hull Mail.
"They get back on Friday and it is my intention to meet him over the weekend to discuss personal terms and let him undergo a medical.
"Am I optimistic? Put it this way, after the summer I've had you just never know until it's all signed, sealed and delivered.
"But let's just say I'm holding my breath."
