Hull set to miss out on defender
Hull City, 15:17, August 7, 2009 ,
Aston Villa have stolen a march on Hull in the race to sign defender Habib Beye and are discussing terms with the Newcastle man.
The 31-year-old was expected to discuss personal terms with Tigers boss Phil Brown after a £2.5million bid was accepted.
However, it has now emerged that Villa have matched that offer and Beye is expected at Villa's training ground to thrash out personal terms.
It is believed Beye would prefer a move to Villa, mainly due to the Midland club's participation in this season's Europa League.
Beye's decision is a blow to Brown as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the Tigers' second season in the Premier League.
The club completed the signings of Seyi Olofinjana and Jody Altidore on Thursday and hoped Beye would make it a hat-trick of signings before Villa's dramatic late move.
