Hull are unlikely to join the race to secure the services of want away Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford, according to reports.
The 26-year-old is attracting plenty of interest from Premier League and Championship clubs having handed in a transfer request when the January window opened just over a week ago. However, despite Sunday tabloid reports suggesting the Tigers were preparing a £2million bid for Beckford, chairman Adam Pearson has reiterated that the club can only fund a loan signing or free transfer to bolster the forward line.
Championship leaders Newcastle are favourites to sign Beckford and are said to be preparing to treble his current £6,000-a-week Elland Road wages if he makes the move up the A1 to St James' Park.
New Bolton boss Owen Coyle is also being linked with a swoop, while the Hull Daily Mail claims the Tigers would be priced out of a deal if other clubs are offering those sort of wages. It is also suggested that boss Phil Brown would not want to risk a significant amount of the club's money on a player who is unproven in a division higher than League One.
