Samab ace in deal talks - Cousin set for exit
Hull City, 10:41, August 24, 2009 ,
Phil Brown says contract talks are at an 'advanced stage' with Geovanni, but Hull could be set to offload striker Daniel Cousin.
The Tigers boss confirmed that he is hopeful of keeping 29-year-old Brazilian playmaker Geovanni at the KC Stadium beyond the end of the current season when his contract expires, despite clashing with him several times during the course of last term.
It seems the former Manchester City star's ability to grab crucial goals is the key factor and Brown claims he has no problem with his attitude.
"I'm at advanced stages with Geo and he's made reference to wanting to stay at Hull and in England, he's got nothing but positives to say about the club," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"I have had many, many conversations with Geovanni. He can sulk, but these players can take things personally at times when it's nothing personal.
"I understand the deal is that you're going to have spats with your players if you're passionate about your job and this club.
"That's probably a sign that they're passionate as well, so I don't have a problem with it."
Meanwhile Brown is thought to be ready to listen to offers for Cousin after the 32-year-old Gabon international was left out of the 18-man squad for Saturday's 1-0 win against Bolton.
The former Rangers hitman was angry with Brown after being substituted 20 minutes into Wednesday's 5-1 home defeat against Tottenham when the Tigers trailed 2-0 and was subsequently missing at the weekend.
Brown added: "I told him it wasn't me that got him subbed, it was the players for not sticking to a game-plan."
