Hull City have been hit with an injury bombshell after it was revealed that Ian Ashbee is unlikely to feature this season.
The 32-year-old skipper ruptured his posterior cruciate ligament at Aston Villa in May and was expected to return in September, possibly alongside record signing Jimmy Bullard, but that will not now be the case and he faces a further nine months on the sidelines.
There has been recent speculation that his entire footballing career was under threat but hopefully that is not the case and Ashbee is now scheduled to travel to America where he will undergo further surgery.
The skipper is unlikely now to play any part in Hull's second season in the Premiership.
