Sunderland step up defender hunt

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is ready to step up his bid to sign £6million-rated defender Michael Turner from Hull City.
Bruce is on the lookout for a new central defender and has targeted Turner after so far failing to land Richard Dunne from Manchester City and Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth.
Turner was a target of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez earlier in the summer but he refused to meet the asking price but Bruce is said to be prepared to spend an initial £6million on the 25-year-old.
