Hull boss Phil Brown wants to sign Wigan winger Kevin Kilbane but will not pay over the odds for the 31-year-old.
The former Everton man is out of contract at the end of the season and has admitted he has been disappointed to have drop out of the first-team at times this campaign.
And with the Tigers waiting in the wings £1m-rated Kilbane could be on the move - but KC Stadium chief Brown will not be held to ransom
He said: "I am interested in Kevin. He has been a great part of Wigan's success story and played Premier League football for a number of years.
"He can play left-back, left-hand side of midfield or left wing, but the figures that are being bandied around are too expensive, in my opinion, for a lad at the age he is at."
