Ajax defender Vurnon Anita is seeking clarity from the club on his future as Newcastle United step up their interest in the Dutchman.
The versatile Netherlands international has been the subject of a £5million bid from the Magpies this summer, an offer which was subsequently rejected by the Eredivisie champions. It is thought Newcastle will come back with an improved offer. Anita has revealed he is set for talks with Marc Overmars in a bid to iron out plans for his immediate future. "I've two years left on my contract. But I want some clarity from Ajax about my future," Anita told the Sunday Mirror. "We have a meeting with Marc Overmars, the club's new sporting director, to get a clear view of what the club wants." The 23 year-old, who is seen by Ajax coach Frank de Boer as a defensive midfielder, played a key role in Ajax's title success last term. His agent Harry Lulofs admitted Anita would relish a move to England. "There is serious interest from Newcastle. A move to the Premier League is so tempting for him. We have to resolve the situation quickly," said Lulofs.
