Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given has got the go-ahead to return to training next week after a visit to a knee specialist.
The 36-year-old has been in London where his troublesome injury has been assessed but he has been given the green light to resume training next week and could now be fit for Euro 2012.
The Aston Villa keeper, who is likely to sit out of this weekend's warm-up match in Dublin against Bosnia-Herzegovina, had been a doubt for the Championships amid concern over the injury.
However, following his visit to the specialist, the keeper is set to be ready for Poland and Ukraine as the Republic prepare for their first major tournament in 10 years.
A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland said: "Shay Given is on his way back from visiting his specialist in London.
"The specialist has been in contact with the Irish medical team and agrees with their diagnosis and recovery management plan.
"Shay is expected to return to full training on Wednesday."
