No Rafa raid for Juve

International Football, 13:50, January 29, 2010 ,

Juventus have sacked Ciro Ferrara and have appointed ex-Udinese coach Alberto Zaccheroni on a four-month deal.

The Serie A giants have slumped in recent times, after a good start to the season, and now stand in sixth spot, while they are also out of the Champions League and the Coppa Italia after last night's 2-1 defeat at Inter.
However, it had already become clear that Ferrara was to be fired prior to the loss at the San Siro Stadium, with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and ex-Chelsea caretaker-boss Guus Hiddink reportedly top of their wanted list.
Juve vice-general manager Roberto Bettega is widely believed to have interviewed Zaccheroni and Claudio Gentile, the Juventus legend and former Italy Under-21s boss, yesterday afternoon.
Bettega is said to have preferred Gentile, but Zaccheroni won over Juve president Jean-Claude Blanc and the club's patron John Elkann.
The 46-year-old, who also coached AC Milan and Inter, is famed for his adherence to 3-4-3 formations.
