Trap won't let Republic blow it
International Football, 12:57, November 18, 2009 ,
Giovanni Trapattoni has warned his Republic of Ireland players not to lose their cool in their World Cup qualifier against France.
The Republic go into the second leg of their World Cup qualifier against the French a goal down following Nicolas Anelka's late strike on Saturday night.
Tensions are likely to be high for the return game in Paris on Wednesday following a nasty spat at the end of the first game between Keith Andrews and Lassana Diarra, allegedly after the Real Madrid man had told Andrews Ireland's dream was over.
However, Trapattoni hopes his players will keep focused on trying to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and has urged them not to take their personal differences with Diarra onto the pitch with them.
"I am sure we and also the French have forgotten all about it," he said.
"I played football too and I know what happens.
"Players in games are always under pressure and sometimes, they don't know what happens in these moments.
"I have said to the players, these games are for warm hearts and cool heads.
"We must play with cool heads, but warm hearts."
The Republic go into the game as huge underdogs following their first leg defeat and punters may fancy backing the French with their free bet to seal their place at next summer's tournament.
